Christian Education

Jesus final words to his followers before his Ascension include the command, ‘Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations’  The good news was to be shared throughout the world, and people from every race and ethnic group were to become his followers, his disciples.  A disciple is someone who willingly follows the discipline of the teacher.  In other words, a disciple is a learner.   So, as disciples of Jesus, our desire, at St. John is to learn from Him.

This happens in informal ways as we worship, serve and have fellowship together.  There are other more intentional ways that we seek to grow as disciples.  Here are some of them.

Christianity Explored is a ten week course for those wanting to explore the Christian faith or brush up on the basics. http://www.christianityexplored.org/

For a number of years we have hosted a Lenten Learning Series.  During the season of Lent (mid to late winter), we invite guest speakers to address an area of the Christian life so that we can have a deeper appreciation of God’sgoodness and mercy in Jesus Christ, and the life to which He is calling us.

In July and August, we have the Summer Sermon Series.  The sermons are typically based on one book in the Bible.  In 2008 we worked our way through Galatians, and in 2009 we looked at Philippians.
